Chrystia Freeland is a woman who has made a name for herself in the world of politics and journalism. Born in 1968 in Peace River, Alberta, Freeland was exposed to the world of politics at an early age. Her family is no stranger to politics, as her paternal grandfather was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta and her maternal grandfather was a member of the House of Commons of Canada.
After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Russian history and literature from Harvard University and a Master’s degree in Slavic languages from St. Antony’s College, Oxford, Freeland began her career as a journalist. She worked for top publications such as The Financial Times, The Globe and Mail, and Reuters, covering major events such as the fall of the Soviet Union, the Iraq War, and the rise of China. Freeland’s political career started in 2013 when she ran for a seat in the Canadian House of Commons under the Liberal Party. She quickly rose through the ranks and was appointed as Minister of International Trade in 2015.
